Mardi Gras Awareness
My posters, inspired by “Poisonous Plastic: The Toxic Truth About Mardi Gras Beads” from the Tulane Hullabaloo, were designed to visually highlight the severe environmental and health impacts of these toxic beads. The goal was to capture attention while informing viewers about the hidden dangers behind a beloved tradition.
The designs feature Mardi Gras-themed headlines and powerful taglines pulled directly from the article. Visually, I incorporated a modern twist on traditional beads, using vibrant Mardi Gras colors alongside illustrations of chemical atoms and toxic symbols. This visual contrast underscores the harmful nature of the beads while preserving the festive spirit associated with the celebration.
By balancing celebration with a strong call to action, the posters aim to spark conversation and encourage more eco-conscious choices during Mardi Gras. They are meant to raise awareness and inspire a shift toward environmentally responsible practices without losing the cultural essence of the event.
